The Scorpion Millenium Reunion is history, but the memories will continue to linger for those who attended. Old friendships were renewed and new ones were established durng this reunion. Thanks to the organizers (Jim Springer, Connie Duncan, Elaine Duncan, Molly Alexander, Dave Fliehr), the many helpers, the musicians and to all the Scorpions who attended to make this one a memorable reunion.

SCORPION YEARBOOK UPDATE

Click to view yearbook The latest Scorpion yearbook to be added to our site's archive is Robert "Chip" Steiner's 1963 Scorpion. This is the oldest yearbook added to the archive so far. Back then, the yearbook was mimeographed (for those too young to remember what that means, it was the equivalent of photocopying - but not as efficient) and the pictures were glued to the pages! Click on the cover of the yearbook below to view it.

Soon to be added to the archive (as soon as I find the time to scan them) are Nancy (Camplair) Phelps' 1964 Scorpion, Lonnie Phelps' 1965 Scorpion, Yvonne Gurney's 1975 & 1976 Scorpions, and Lisa Dwyn (Gurney) Conyers' 1977 Scorpion.

From the early 60s is Jody (Nankivell) Herriott's 1964 yearbook (named Tazi Tales) for the International Elementary School before it was merged with the Kabul International High School to form AISK. I was present at that time, but I had completely forgotten that we even had a yearbook for the elementary school until Jody mentioned she had a copy. Thanks Jody!

All of the archived yearbooks can be found in the Newsletter & Archive section of this site.

PHOTO ALBUM UPDATE

In addition to the reunion photos, 4 new pages of 66 pictures submitted by Lisa (Fortune) Harrison and Kristin Otwell have been added to our site's photo album. Click on the small photos to view each page and enlarge the photos on each page.

MYSTERY PERSONS

Here are 2 relatively recent pictures of Scorpions. The Scorpion pictured with his wife should be easy to identify - he was at the reunion and his appearance has not changed at all. The other Scorpion pictured with his son John may be a little more difficult to identify.

RECOMMENDED READING

Jock McClure "bet that all of us mighty Scorpions have knowledge of a book or two that would be of interest to the rest of us." I agree and this month we feature Jock's recommendation in his own words:

I've enjoyed showing Debbie all the photographs you've posted. She's heard me talk about our experiences in Afghanistan enough to understand that I'll never stop, and has become enthusiastic to learn all she can about the subject. I've recently begun reading out loud to her the story "A Short Walk In The Hindu Kush". It's by Eric Newby and was printed first in England in 1958, by Secker & Warburg. My copy is by Penguin Books. It has also appeared as "A Short Walk: A Preposterous Adventure" by Doubleday & Company, Inc.
