October 2004
In this Issue

This month, aisk.org celebrates its 9th anniversary on the Internet! Our site has undergone a lot of changes since its initial appearance on the Internet and the change continues. The Bazaar (Chat Room) has been closed since it has outlived its use. Our chat room has not seen any activity in the past few months. More changes are planned for our Web site.

Dave Sperry's Photos
Afghanistan in the Early 1970's

Dave Sperry '72 shares his photos from the years he spent in Afghanistan with the Zellers. Dave did not believe that these photos would be of interest to anyone else. I'm glad that I was able to convince him otherwise.

There are a total of 52 additional photos grouped in 4 pages in this next installment. Click on each thumbnail below to view each page of photos.

There are still over 200 slides which I have not started to scan yet.

Thanks Dave!

Mystery Scorpions
Click to enlargeDid you recognize them all? Some?

Last month's photo of the mystery Scorpions was submitted Tom Goddard '74.

About 1972 there was a school art show at the USIS building in Shari Nau. Of course like all top quality art shows, it required a funky brochure... luckily one has survived the years and the original "blue tint" brochure is shown here on the right.

Now that you have all had sufficient time to name the mystery people on the AISK Untitled brochure, here are the answers. The corresponding photo numbers have been added to the names that appeared on the inside of the brochure. Misspelled names on the brochure have not been corrected...!

The missing names have been identified by others in the forum.

The identity of the mystery girl from the previous month (August) is still being hotly debated in the forum. Perhaps the rest of Dave's photos (see above) will finally solve this mystery.

Thanks Tom!

Rick Burgess (1963-67) recently shared the "obituary" of Old Hand Archer K. Blood which he found in the Washington Post. Archer K. Blood, father of Peter Blood, Shirin Blood Updegraff and Barbara Blood Rankin, died on 3 Sept. in Ft. Collins, CO. Our deepest sympathies go to the Blood family.

Scott Norvell ('71-73) is headed back to Kabul for his first time to manage the Fox News coverage of the upcoming Afghan elections. He would be interested in any advice you have about possible sidebar stories and general coverage and anyone you think he should look up while in Kabul. He would love to do a piece about AISK alums doing good in Kabul if any are around. Scott is based in London.

Thanks Rick and Scott!
